Sprinter Van Services
Sprinter Transmission
Transmission fluid cools and lubricates a transmission’s moving parts. This important vehicle fluid plays a big role in keeping your transmission in functioning properly. Most transmission failure is caused by overheating, a problem that is usually preventable if you regularly monitor the clarity of your transmission fluid.
The more you drive your vehicle, the more gunk and buildup is pushed into your transmission systems. This gunk builds over time and causes your vehicle’s transmission to work harder and heat up while in use.
To remove the buildup, auto repair professionals can service your vehicle with either a transmission fluid change or transmission flush.
How often should you change transmission fluid on a Sprinter Van?
If your van is constantly in load, then you need to do the service your transmission more often. If you travel mainly around the city, in urban mode: there are a lot of stops, traffic jams, and traffic lights, or you have a lot of cold starts: delivery of packages, etc. then you need to change at least every 40,000 miles.
If you travel 8-12 hours a day between cities and you do not have a full load, then you can service transmission every 50,000-90,000
To know the exact frequency, bring your sprinter van in for service so that our certified techs can check the color of the transmission fluid and provide you the best advice on keeping your vehicle on the road.
Oil Change and Maintenance
To improve your MPG, reduce wear, ensure quality engine performance and get more life out of your Sprinter Van, ADR recommends oil changes every 6,000-8,000 miles, and transmission fluid changes every 40,000 miles.
Most people ask, what kind of engine oil do you need for your Sprinter?
Mercedes Benz recommends using low SPAsh multigrade service engine oils 229.52 for 2010 – 2020 Sprinter Vans.
Sprinter Services “A” & “B”
Intervals for Sprinter services “A” and “B” are 10,000 miles between each. So, at 10,000 miles, you’ll perform Service “A” and then at 20,000, perform Service “B”; at 30,000, perform Service “A” again and at 40,000 miles perform Service “B”, and so on. You’ll be doing 1 of the 2 services every 10,000 miles.
Service “A” is needed after the first 10,000 miles or 1 year of ownership—whichever occurs first. Several routine repairs and maintenance are carried out during Service “A”.
Service “B” is needed after the first 20,000 miles or 2 years of ownership, and then every 20,000 miles/2 years going forward. Like Service “A”, service “B” includes fluid checks, tire checks, brake inspection, and more. It also requires cabin air dust/combination filter replacement and a brake fluid exchange.
Sprinter Van Fuel Filter
What is the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter fuel filter? Fuel filters are an important part of the fuel delivery system. They prevent contaminants from fuel, and the fuel tank, from entering the fuel system and causing damage. What are the symptoms related to a bad fuel filter? When the fuel filter begins to clog, the engine suffers from fuel starvation. This will cause a significant reduction in power and may also cause a misfire.
How often do fuel filters need to be replaced in Sprinter Vans?
Typically, you will need fuel filters replaced every 20,000- 30,000 miles.
Sprinter Air Filters
You have two air filters in the Sprinter, one large – the main air filter for the engine. The second filter is smaller and for the cabin.
One rule: Do not forget to change filters. How often do you change the air filter on your Sprinter van?
The frequency of replacing the air filter depends on the intensity of use and the environment, but we check your air filters at every service interval.
Alternator Replacements
Your Sprinter alternator provides the electrical current necessary to keep your battery charged. Other problems, such as a bad battery or starter, may produce some similar symptoms. It’s best to have your charging and starting systems checked before assuming the alternator is at fault.
Alternator Failure Warning Signs
- Dashboard indicator gauges or lights
- Engine starts slow/hard
- Frequent jump starts or battery charging needed
Belts, Pulleys, Tensioner
Over time your belts stretch, crack, and the ribs that ride on the accessory pulleys begin to wear smooth. You may hear a squealing noise that is often caused by the belt slipping on the pulleys. Ineffective AC, a battery warning light, intermittent power steering assist, and other issues can result from a failing engine belt.
How often do belts need to be replaced on a Sprinter Van?
Replacement intervals vary by vehicle and driving conditions. We typically see this part replaced approximately every 100,000 miles, but we will inspect at every service interval.
Sprinter Brake Services
Your brakes are the most important part on your vehicle. Proper brake pads extend the brake system’s life and provide proper stopping power – especially under load. Good brakes prevent the calipers/metal brake shoes and rotors from grinding together. Generally, replacement is recommended every 20,000+ miles, but if you notice a high-pitched screeching sound during braking, be sure to book a service appointment ASAP.
Brake Replacement Warning Signs
- Brake light comes on
- Brakes grind when applied or a metal-on-metal noise
- Your van is jerky or pulls to one side when braking
- Low brake fluid levels
Shock Absorber and Strut Replacement
Signs of Sprinter Van shock absorber or strut problems: all Sprinters will eventually require shock absorber and strut replacement. Over time, your shock absorbers and struts begin to fail and may start to leak. If you see oily moisture or wetness under the shock, this is a signal that you need to urgently replace it. When this happens, your vehicle may start to sag on the side of the broken shock absorber or not provide adequate shock prevention when hitting a pothole, bump or obstruction. Bad shock absorbers and struts can also do damage to your chassis, auto body, suspension and tires.
General Maintenance
We’ve listed just a few of the regular items we address with Sprinter Van maintenance and repair, but we encourage all sprinter van owners to do regular maintenance to ensure your vehicle is efficient, safe and performs as expected. Whether you use your Sprinter Van as a trade (plumber, construction, electrical, delivery, etc) or a recreational vehicle, it’s vital to have regular maintenance performed.
